I would read more books by Megan Morrison. My mom also liked this book so I think that grown ups would like it as well. I enjoyed journeying with Jack and Rapunzel through the land of Tyme and think kids who like fairy tales and adventure books will too. I am more familiar with the Disney movie but it still made sense. I liked this book and thought it was an interesting remix on the classic fairy tale. Rapunzel also learns that she is stronger, braver, and more capable than she thinks she is. But they learn that they need to help each other in order to survive. In the beginning they don’t like each other very much. Rapunzel and Jack develop a friendship throughout the story. Jack is there to help Rapunzel and to fulfill his deal. On their quest through the Land of Tyme, Rapunzel sets out to learn about her past and learn about the past of the witch, for the fairies insist. Rapunzel descends to the ground for the first time, and finds a world. Rapunzel gets lured out of her tower by Jack (as in Jack and the Beanstalk), who is trying to fulfill a deal he made with a fairy. It starts in the tower and then ventures beyond.

This book is the retelling of the Rapunzel story, more from the fairy tale than from the Disney movie, although it has some elements from the movie, like when Rapunzel adopts a frog (in the movie she has a chameleon). This is a review by the almost 11 year old in LanierHgts’ house, Lala.
